Needless to say the longer the distance the pricier it gets. So far it looks as it won't happen under $5k because most every moving company charges by cubic feet which adds up pretty quickly especially if you have a household of furniture and the usual items on every floor.
I've estimated there's not much savings but much more frustration going the truck rental route. Renting a 26 foot U-Haul truck runs into $3k, another $900 to hire two man team to load and unload for 3 hours each. Gas and tolls on a huge truck like this estimated to run over $1000. So we're right about there back at $5k. The big difference the rental route is not restricted to cubic foot estimation while the moving companies count the CF even though there's still plenty of room left in the truck.
I don't understand why they don't give us the flat rate whatever fits into the entire truck because most don't charge by the weight of the load. In any case I'm not done taking estimates for at least the rest of this week until I have a firm picture what if any savings can be gained and how.
On the car transport I found pretty decent pricing rather quickly in comparison the the household moving. I'm all set with the car transportation. Just have to call them back closer to the moving date to lock in rate and date.
